Dentures

Dentures are removable prosthetic devices designed to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. They are a common and effective solution for individuals who have lost some or all of their natural teeth due to factors such as decay, gum disease, or injury. Dentures not only restore the appearance of a complete smile but also improve the functionality of chewing, speaking, and maintaining facial structure.

There are two main types of dentures: complete dentures and partial dentures.

  1. Complete Dentures: These are used when all natural teeth in either the upper or lower jaw are missing. Complete dentures consist of a full set of artificial teeth mounted on a gum-colored acrylic base. They are custom-made to fit the patient’s mouth and are held in place through natural suction or with the help of denture adhesives.
  2. Partial Dentures: Partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw. They consist of artificial teeth attached to a metal or acrylic framework, which is secured to the remaining natural teeth with clasps or precision attachments. Partial dentures fill in the gaps created by missing teeth, improving both function and appearance.

The process of getting dentures typically involves several appointments. During the initial consultation, impressions and measurements are taken to ensure a precise fit. A temporary model may be used to assess the fit and appearance before the final dentures are crafted. Adjustments may be made during subsequent appointments to ensure optimal comfort and functionality.

Dentures require regular care and maintenance, including daily cleaning, periodic adjustments, and occasional relining to accommodate changes in the jawbone over time. Valley Oak Family Dentistry offers personalized denture solutions to help individuals regain confidence in their smiles and enjoy restored oral function.
